Overview

Join the Alnylam Commercial Data and Analytics team and help build a product-driven engine that turns data-driven insights into deployed decisions with measurable business impact. As part of Customer Experience and Innovation, you will work cross-functionally with technical and business partners to accelerate commercial outcomes by standardizing what we build, how we build it, and how we deliver it through the tools and workflows business users rely on every day.

As Director, AI/ML Engineering, you will lead the Omnichannel & Media Optimization and Evaluation & Learning Value Teams, and contribute as needed to additional prioritized Value Teams across the commercial organization, including Business Performance & Drivers, Customer & Account Growth, and Patient Pull-Through & Outcomes. Value Teams collaborate fluidly to deliver and manage decision products that enable specific business outcomes, driving competitive foresight and actioning for the commercial organization through predictive and prescriptive analytics.

In this role, you will lead AI and ML engineering as a product capability that powers decision products at scale. You will set standards for industrialized delivery, establish reusable ML foundations, and ensure reliability, governance, and adoption across deployed models. As a Director, you will also provide people leadership for a small team and serve as the primary point of contact for leadership alignment across the Value Teams whose delivery you lead.

The position will be based in Cambridge, MA.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide people leadership for a small team of 2 to 4, including mentoring, skill development, performance coaching, and career growth planning.
  • Maintain oversight responsibility for the Omnichannel & Media Optimization and Evaluation & Learning Value Teams, serving as a primary point of contact for leadership alignment, prioritization, and delivery commitments across stakeholders.
  • Significant domain expertise aligned to the Value Team areas this role oversees, with the ability to translate business strategy into decision-product roadmaps, analytic requirements, and measurable outcomes.
  • Work within and across multiple Value Teams, aligning to transparent priorities and delivering reusable ML capabilities that scale across franchises and markets.
  • Own AI/ML engineering strategy and roadmap for assigned decision products and shared platforms, sequencing releases to maximize business impact, adoption, and reliability.
  • Productionize predictive and prescriptive models that power prioritization, triggers, recommendations, and optimization, with outputs embedded into core workflows.
  • Own model lifecycle management, including training pipelines, validation, deployment, monitoring, drift detection, retraining triggers, and rollback plans, and establish the operating model for ongoing support.
  • Build dependable feature pipelines and model inputs aligned to gold-layer data products and single source of truth metrics, and enforce disciplined versioning to prevent logic drift.
  • Partner with Advanced Analytics to translate use cases into deployable requirements, define evaluation approaches, and deliver stakeholder-ready outputs and measurement plans.
  • Partner with Data Stewardship to ensure traceability, governance, and approved pathways for metric and feature reuse, including contributions to analytics engineering where appropriate.
  • Use AI tooling to increase efficiency and throughput, including AI-native IDEs and safe use of agentic AI analytics when appropriate for exploratory work and stakeholder-ready synthesis; operate in agile delivery rhythms using Jira and GitHub-based version control for code and model artifacts.

 

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 12 years in software engineering, ML engineering, or applied data science, ideally in healthcare or life sciences.
  • Experience leading and developing teams, including mentoring, engineering skill development, and supporting career growth for team members.
  • Strong software engineering foundations, including testing practices, code reviews, CI/CD, and operational support, with experience leading standards across teams.
  • Experience with modern ML frameworks and APIs, model evaluation, and production monitoring, including governance needs such as traceability, reproducibility, and appropriate explainability in regulated environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and comfort with modern data tooling such as Spark and dbt for analytics engineering and metric standardization.
  • Experience using AI tooling to improve throughput and quality, including responsible use of agentic AI analytics and AI-native IDEs.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical tradeoffs to diverse audiences and drive alignment across functions and Value Teams.
  • Experience working in Jira and collaborating using git-based version control in GitHub.

  • Evaluation & Learning: providing objective measurement of what worked and why and feeding learnings back to enable rapid optimization of commercial strategies and investment guidance.

U.S. Pay Range

$165,800.00 - $224,200.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
