Overview

The Associate Director, Commercial Operations is responsible for collaborating with multiple stakeholders across commercial to enhance the productivity of Alnylam’s US field teams by maintaining field role alignments, managing commercial target lists, generating insights from data, establishing the right KPIs, implementing more efficient processes, and leveraging new technology solutions.  Focus will include responding to current needs while designing and refining scalable practices enabling maximal effectiveness as the organization continues to grow in size and complexity.  This position will report to the Director, Commercial Operations.  It is a hybrid role and the person will need to come to the office as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities

Sales Force Effectiveness

  • Work with commercial leaders to understand sales team priorities and design KPIs to measure execution against these priorities.
  • Undertake analytics on sales force activity to provide insights on a regular basis.
  • Evaluate time spent on, and effectiveness of, sales-customer interactions, and recommend solutions.
  • Understand the end-to-end sales cycle/customer journey and develop strategies to accelerate and improve the success rate.
  • Partner with the Training team to help accelerate the learning of field representatives to improve their business acumen and territory planning skills.

Field Territory Alignment

  • Own the Veeva Align system business requirements, as well as maintain the current territory hierarchy, structure, customer, and zip code alignments in Alnylam's territory management system.
  • Assist Field leaders in modeling expansions and territory redesign.
  • Update and maintain territory workload estimates and associated logic.

Commercial Field Insights

  • Mine data to identify key challenges and opportunities in the business.
  • Propose approaches to mitigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Play a key role in preparation of and during the Quarterly Business Reviews and Monthly Business Reviews.
  • Collaborate and partner with multiple stakeholders across Commercial to support the achievement of strategies, key objectives and business needs in a compliant way.
  • Maintain a compliant mindset to ensure all operational tasks are compliant and that appropriate analyses are performed to evaluate performance.

Go-to-Market Strategy

  • Assess targeting logic, refresh target lists, and effort allocation to make recommendations to increase productivity. 
  • Assess and recommend optimal sales force design and organizational structure, coverage, and productivity improvement.
  • Assess customer segments and channels to optimize the go-to market strategy to gain differentiation and competitive advantage. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree.
  • 7+ years working in related role and capacity, preferably within the pharma/bio industry.
  • Highly organized agile learner, capable of effective real time thinking and effective communication.
  • Experience with field force alignments, HCP segmentation, reporting, size/structure, and strategic analysis.
  • Experience in multiple commercial roles including operations and strategy.
  • Experience working with and presenting to executive audience.
  • Track record of delivering solutions with excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and derived value.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical data sources & ad hoc generation + iteration.
  • Advanced level Excel and PowerPoint (Additional Power BI, Tableau skills preferred).
  • High sense of urgency, balanced with focus on quality & process.
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills with field and internal leadership at all levels.
  • Project management skills with demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects & priorities.
  • Experience working with field teams, ideally having been part of a field team.
  • Ability to travel for key external & internal meetings as needed (Role has ~10% overnight travel).
