Associate Director, Scientific Communications Operations

 

Overview

The Associate Director, Scientific Communications Operations is a member of the Global Scientific Communications team, with a high-level of accountability. S/he will focus on managing all aspects of daily Publications operations, including maintaining/updating publication management systems/policies/SOPs, contracting and procurement activities. Additonally, s/he will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and execute on a Global Scientific Communications metrics strategy that will help define the impact of Alnylam’s communication initiatives, by identifying relevant and consistent metrics and KPIs that support Alnylam scientific and medical objectives.

The ability to effectively communicate, work with internal stakeholders and external thought leaders in a fast-paced environment, and be well versed in matrix environment is critical to this role. S/he will report to the Vice President, Global Scientific Communications.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all administrative requirements in support of publications activities, including NAQ/contract SME and liaison with Alnylam Legal business partner, finance/budget oversight and SME for associated compliance requirements, incl. TOV reporting
  • Participate/assist in budget forecasting and long-range planning for publications plans
  • Own the development and maintenance of publication tracking tools/repositories
  • Accountable for systems and process audit readiness, iEnvision oversight and maintenance
  • Develop/maintain global Policy/SOPs & system training, ensure compliance with processes/guidelines, and maintain Nebula page and access to up-to-date resources
  • Serve as an internal resource/SME to cross-functional colleagues for training on publication management system, policies, and SOPs
  • Vendor management where appropriate, including RFP and liaison with strategic sourcing business partners
  • Lead the development and execute a comprehensive and integrated scientific communications metrics strategy in partnership with leadership and key stakeholders (Med Excellence & Operations, Analytics, Omnichannel, etc) to define the impact of Alnylam’s communication initiatives and support Alnylam scientific and medical objectives
  • Develop operational reports, and dashboards to educate and inform the business

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years experience in operational role with emphasis on scientific communications and publications. Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) in life science or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience and strong knowledge of industry guidelines pertaining to data dissemination (e.g., CONSORT, ICMJE, GPP), interactions with healthcare providers (e.g., PhRMA), and strong understanding of CME principles (ACCME guidelines). Exemplary compliance with policies, SOPs, and guidelines
  • Excellent knowledge of medical communications and publications discipline and processes preferred
  • Expertise in the use of iEnvision Datavision. Knowledge of PowerBI a plus
  • Proven experience in developing metrics to measure comms/pubs impact and KPIs preferred
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively with internal cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
  • Proven planning and organizational skills with experience managing multiple priorities. Experience and detailed knowledge of industry processes and systems are preferred to provide training and to be an ongoing resource to team members and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a matrix environment, be a creative problem-solver
  • This position is based in Boston, MA, and offers a flexible hybrid work model with a minimum of 2 days/week in the office (Kendall Sq, Cambridge)
