Associate Legal Director, U.S. Commercial

Overview

The Associate Legal Director, U.S. Commercial will provide legal support for our marketed programs, partnering with Marketing, Patient Services, and Market Access teams. This position will require you to work in a matrix setting of a fast-paced, rapidly growing organization. You will engage with key business partners in developing and executing strategies and tactics across critical channels, including activities related to patient support programs, field reimbursement, and payer engagement.

You will need to partner effectively with colleagues across the Commercial Legal Team and broader Legal Department. You will also need to collaborate successfully with various stakeholders such as the U.S. Commercial and Ethics & Compliance teams as well as outside counsel. This includes working with colleagues and stakeholders in different geographies. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of healthcare laws as they relate to fraud and abuse, privacy, payer communications, and advertising and promotion.

This position is preferably hybrid (primarily located in Cambridge, MA)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide balanced risk perspectives and top-quality legal advice in a highly regulated market to the U.S. Patient Services, Market Access, and other Commercial teams based on applicable laws, regulations, and Alnylam policies and guidelines
  • Analyze and provide strategic guidance on Alnylam’s patient support programs, field reimbursement activities, and payer engagement; serve as legal reviewer on promotional and medical review committees for related collateral, communications, and training materials
  • Identify, analyze, and mitigate legal and operational risks; engage and manage outside counsel for certain advice as agreed within U.S. Commercial Legal
  • Present to relevant business partners, including senior leadership, on key legal matters
  • Partner with the Ethics & Compliance team on training and other activities
  • Proactively progress team initiatives and processes by helping ensure consistency of guidance, stakeholder momentum, and effective change management

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited law school in the U.S. both required, with excellent academic credentials preferred
  • 4-7 years of legal experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry advising on patient support programs, reimbursement matters, and/or payer communications, or from a law firm working with pharmaceutical / biotech industry clients on similar matters
  • Direct experience serving on a promotional review committee is highly preferred
  • Bar license in good standing; ability to register as Massachusetts in-house counsel
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with a wide variety of company colleagues as well as with external parties on a broad range of matters
  • Ability to make and communicate thoughtful, integrated and timely decisions, take corresponding actions, and escalate certain matters in U.S. Commercial Legal as appropriate
  • Ability to manage outside counsel as agreed within U.S. Commercial Legal
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and manage discrete areas of responsibility, and to flourish in a fast-paced and high energy environment
  • Strong organizational skills in order to maintain a high level of productivity, innovation and priority-settling in order to meet commitments on-time and handle a high volume of work 
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of integrity, transparency, accuracy and attention to detail

U.S. Pay Range

$208,800.00 - $282,400.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
