Director, Data Engineering & Management
Cambridge, MA, US, 02142
Overview
Alnylam is transforming how data powers our business — and this role sits at the center of that shift for our General & Administrative functions. As Director of Data Engineering & Management, you will own the data platform strategy and delivery for Finance, HR, Legal, and Compliance, leading a team of 10–20 data engineers while staying hands-on with the most complex technical challenges. This is an engineering-led leadership role, not a portfolio management role: we are looking for someone who architects solutions, writes production code, and earns trust through delivered results. Reports to the VP of Enterprise Data, Architecture & AI. Hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA with 2 days/week onsite.
Responsibilities
• Own end-to-end data platform strategy and delivery for Finance, HR, Legal, and Compliance — building reliable pipelines and infrastructure that enable financial analytics, people analytics, workforce planning, and compliance reporting.
• Architect and implement production-grade ELT/ETL pipelines integrating SAP S/4HANA and SAP SuccessFactors with Snowflake, Databricks, and AWS using Python, SQL, Airflow, and dbt.
• Establish data governance, quality, and master data management frameworks meeting SOX, GDPR, and data privacy requirements across all G&A domains.
• Serve as the primary data platform partner to CFO, CHRO, CLO, and CCO organizations — translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions and owning delivery outcomes.
• Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing team of 10–20 data engineers and analytics professionals, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and functional domain fluency.
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years building production data platforms and pipelines; 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Expert-level Snowflake and strong Databricks experience; hands-on AWS data services (S3, Glue, EMR, Lake Formation).
• Expert SQL and Python with production-quality coding standards.
• Deep SAP integration experience: S/4HANA, SuccessFactors, CDS Views, OData APIs, Fivetran or Matillion.
• Strong data governance experience including quality frameworks, lineage, cataloging, and MDM.
• Familiarity with SOX, GDPR, CCPA, and regulated data environments.
• 5+ years leading data engineering teams of 10+; proven ability to balance technical contribution with team leadership.
Preferred
• Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience.
• People analytics platform experience (Visier, One Model, or equivalent).
• Experience with people analytics use cases: attrition modeling, workforce planning, compensation benchmarking.
• Knowledge of data governance tools: Collibra, Alation, or Atlan.
• Occasional travel required (10–15%).
