Overview:

 

The Director, Enterprise Data Architect leads the data engineering and data management capability supporting Alnylam’s Technical Operations & Quality (TOQ) and Research & Development (R&D) organizations. This role owns the design, build, and operation of data platforms and pipelines on the Alnylam Lakehouse (Snowflake), enabling manufacturing, quality, supply chain, clinical, and research analytics in a GxP-regulated environment. Based in Cambridge, MA, the Director partners closely with TOQ/ReDev business leaders and technology counterparts while remaining hands-on with complex data engineering challenges.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Own delivery of data engineering and data management solutions for TOQ and R&D, ensuring reliable, scalable, and GxP-compliant data platforms that support manufacturing, quality, clinical, and research decision-making 
• Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines and data products on the Alnylam Lakehouse, integrating manufacturing, laboratory, quality, clinical, and research systems using modern data engineering practices 
• Lead adoption of modern data movement and integration patterns, transitioning away from legacy batch and point-to-point integrations toward managed ingestion, streaming, and governed data sharing 
• Serve as the primary data engineering partner to TOQ/ReDev business and technology leaders, working in an embedded, “two-in-a-box” model to co-design and deliver next-generation capabilities 
• Contribute hands-on technical leadership to complex integration, data quality, and performance challenges while setting engineering standards and best practices for the team 
• Support evaluation and implementation of new manufacturing and supply chain platforms by defining data integration requirements and ensuring alignment with Alnylam data architecture standards
 • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of data engineers and data management professionals, with accountability for delivery across full-time and variable resources

 

Qualifications:

 

Required:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field 
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform development, with at least 3 years in a people-leadership role 
• Strong hands-on experience with modern data platforms and architectures, including cloud data services and Snowflake-based lakehouse environments 
• Experience designing and delivering data integrations in regulated (GxP) environments, with a solid understanding of data integrity and validation principles 
• Proven ability to partner with business stakeholders and translate complex requirements into scalable, compliant data solutions

 

Preferred:

 

• Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences organizations
• Familiarity with manufacturing, laboratory, quality, or clinical systems (e.g., MES, LIMS, ELN, QMS, clinical data platforms) 
• Experience working within agile or product-oriented delivery models

U.S. Pay Range

$199,800.00 - $270,300.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
