Custom Field 1:  3123
Date:  Apr 18, 2026
Location:

Cambridge, MA, US, 02142

Overview:

Alnylam is seeking a Director of Market Research to support the Value Pipeline Commercialization (VPC) organization across the full pipeline, from preclinical through Phase 3, spanning multiple therapeutic areas and potential business development opportunities.

This role will serve as the dedicated market research partner to VPC teams, responsible for shaping how insights inform early and mid-stage asset strategy, portfolio prioritization, and external opportunity assessment. The Director will lead insight generation across key development milestones, ensuring a deep understanding of patients, healthcare providers, and payers is embedded in decision making from the earliest stages of development.

The initial priority for this role will be a Phase 3 asset in hypertension, where the Director will play a central role in informing target product profile, patient segmentation, positioning, and future commercialization strategy. Over time, the scope will expand across additional assets and therapeutic areas, as well as selected business development evaluations.

This role requires strong experience in new product planning market research, with the ability to operate in ambiguity, connect disparate data sources, and translate insights into clear, actionable recommendations that influence strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Pipeline and Portfolio Support

  • Serve as the market research lead across VPC assets, supporting programs from preclinical through Phase 3.
  • Lead insight generation to inform key decisions, including indication prioritization, target product profile, positioning, and lifecycle strategy.
  • Support portfolio strategy discussions by providing a clear view of market opportunity, unmet need, and competitive dynamics.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of external opportunities, including business development assessments, by developing an objective, insight-driven view of market potential.

Hypertension Asset Leadership (Near-Term Focus)

  • Act as the dedicated market research partner for a Phase 3 hypertension asset.
  • Build a deep understanding of the hypertension landscape, including treatment paradigms, physician behavior, patient journey, and payer considerations.
  • Lead foundational work such as unmet need assessment, patient segmentation, treatment decision drivers, and early positioning exploration.
  • Translate insights into clear implications for development and future commercialization strategy.

Insight Generation Across Development Milestones

  • Define and execute market research plans aligned to asset stage gates, ensuring insights are available at critical decision points.
  • Design and lead qualitative and quantitative research across patients, HCPs, and payers.
  • Apply structured approaches to early-stage questions, including opportunity sizing, concept testing, and scenario exploration.
  • Partner with forecasting and analytics teams to inform key assumptions and inputs.

Customer and Market Understanding

  • Develop a deep understanding of disease areas, customer segments, and evolving standards of care across the pipeline.
  • Identify and quantify unmet needs and sources of differentiation.
  • Apply behavioral and decision frameworks to understand how stakeholders make choices in complex treatment environments.

Integration and Strategic Synthesis

  • Integrate primary research with secondary data, competitive intelligence, and analytics to create a cohesive view of the market.
  • Translate insights into clear, concise recommendations with a strong connection to business impact.
  • Ensure insights are delivered proactively to shape decisions, not just in response to requests.

Research Excellence and Vendor Management

  • Design and oversee high-quality research, ensuring rigor in methodology, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Manage external research partners, setting clear expectations and maintaining high standards of delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to use innovative methodologies to improve speed and depth of insight.

Enterprise Alignment and Capability Contribution

  • Operate within and help evolve enterprise market research standards, processes, and ways of working.
  • Contribute to building scalable approaches for pipeline and new product planning research.
  • Partner closely with Competitive Intelligence and Advanced Analytics to ensure a coordinated and complementary insight strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required. Advanced degree in Business, Life Sciences, Behavioral Science, or a related field preferred.
  • 8–12 years of experience in biopharmaceutical market research, with a strong focus on pipeline or new product planning.
  • Experience supporting assets across multiple stages of development, including early-stage opportunity assessment and pre-launch planning.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting or contributing to business development or asset evaluation is a plus.
  • Ability to translate research into clear strategic recommendations that influence development and commercialization decisions.
  • Experience working in complex, matrixed organizations with significant cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong command of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Experience in cardiovascular disease, including hypertension, is a plus.
  • Operates with strong ownership and accountability, taking initiative in shaping the insight agenda.
  • Brings curiosity and a desire to understand underlying behaviors and decision drivers.
  • Communicates clearly and directly, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and evolving priorities across multiple assets.
  • Balances strategic thinking with disciplined execution.
