Overview

The Director of Medical Excellence is a leadership role within Global Medical Affairs organization that reports directly to a VP of Medical Excellence, Operations and Planning.  He/She will be  responsible for the execution and management of the overall implementation of strategic initiatives within the Global Medical Affairs organization and will work with the Global Medical Affairs Leadership team, International Medical Affairs Leadeship team, cross functional internal colleagues and external vendors to execute on projects in line with the functions overall strategic focus.  This position will drive, analyze, align, resolve and communicate on key strategic programs allowing for Global Medical Affairs Leadership to make informed decisions that will contribute to the overall success of the function against its strategic imperatives. This position will manage and supervise an Associate Director of Global Medical Excellence and a Sr. Manager of US Field Operations and Medical Effectiveness and will apply good project management techniques to insure in scope, on-time, on budget results.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and implement a 1-3 year Field Medical Excellence roadmap with operational and strategic objectives
  • Develop Global Medical Excellence plan
  • Participate as a subject matter expert in corporate cross-functional initiatives addressing activities and resources relevant to Field Medical
  • In conjuncation with MA training functions globally develops Medical competencises framework on role-specific skills and relevant systems for the Field Medical organization (ex. CRM, Veeva Vault)
  • Partner with Global Analytics team on the collection, monitoring and reporting on key performance metrics related to Field Medical
  • Partner with regional and country MA colleagues to ensure cross-regional coordination and alignment
  • Develop a methodology to measure impact, effectiveness, and medical value of Medical Affairs activity in close connection with compliance
  • Lead the development and implementation of a Medical KOL management & engagement model and related tools that will provide a strategically aligned and consistent approach, to be used globally to ensure optimal engagement
  • Lead discussions and provide input and consultation on Field Medical related systems and processes (e.g., Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools, Insightd platforms, KOL management databases, etc.) across Medial Affairs programs
  • Represent Medical Excellence within enterprise, Medical Training team, Commercial Analytics team, etc. and provides insight and leadership on field medical capability, scientific insight processes, medical competencies and functional strategic insights
  • Collaborate with Clinical Development and R&D to continuously identify areas for projects and process of mutual benefit to demonstrate value of Medical
  • Stays current on industry trends, technology, and external excellence to share best practices for continued advancement 

 

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in health or life sciences related field such as a PharmD, MD or Ph.D. or geographical equivalents
  • 8 years of healthcare or related experience (clinical practice, research, academic, Medical Science liason or market access) which should include 3 years of experience in managing Field Medical organization within Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Proven team/project management skills, including global/regional matrix leadership
  • Proven track record of strong strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, project management and demonstrated ability to manage, lead and mentor individuals
  • Demonstrated understanding of global ethics & compliance, legal and regulatory guidelines of the pharmaceutical industry especially in relation to medical services and Field Medical initiatives
  • Strong problem-solving skills, strategic capabilities, project management, planning, and organization skills
  • Ability to understand and align the needs from global, regional, and Business Unit perspectives
  • Proven ability to influence and have strong collaboration skills and change management with an ability to work successfully in a complex, global, matrix organization
  • Ability to oversee the creation of strategic, long-range plans that are aligned with strategies across the organization
