Overview
Alnylam is seeking a strategic, innovative, and collaborative leader to serve as Director, Strategic Account Management, Program Office. This individual will play a critical role in embedding Strategic Account Management (SAM) as an enterprise capability that drives mutual value for Alnylam and its organized customer partners. The Director will lead the implementation of SAM tools, processes, and enablement programs while supporting cross-functional execution of strategic account plans across key accounts.
Key Responsibilities
1. Establish and operationalize SAM as a scalable organizational capability
- Partner closely with the VP, Strategic Accounts to drive implementation of the SAM vision and support execution across the organization.
- Refresh and enhance SAM business processes, aligning them with industry best practices and translating them into practical, actionable tools and tactics.
- Lead the design and rollout of internal capability-building programs for cross-functional SAM team members including training on customer engagement frameworks, talent development, and metrics.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators to monitor SAM adoption and track the impact of a One Alnylam approach across accounts.
- Drive consistent application of the Customer Engagement Process (CEP) across strategic accounts.
- Develop and maintain SAM toolkits, account planning templates, playbooks, and operational resources to support account teams.
- Partner with the incentives and sales operations teams to shape compensation and incentives models aligned with SAM goals.
- Build organizational buy-in for SAM as a core capability, clearly articulating its value, addressing resistance, and enabling cross-functional alignment and collaboration.
2. Enable cross-functional execution in strategic accounts
- Support the implementation of the One Alnylam SAM approach within integrated account teams to ensure coordinated, impactful customer engagement.
- Actively contribute to SAM program strategy, providing a clear and compelling direction that aligns account planning and execution with broader business priorities.
- Lead project management across the SAM program, including initiative planning, execution tracking, and status communication.
- Identify and address operational and training needs across cross-functional teams, providing tools and coaching support to elevate performance and strategic execution in key accounts.
- Facilitate collaboration among stakeholders across Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Patient Services, and other key functions to advance account-level strategies and unlock customer value.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in biopharma or healthcare, with at least 5 years in strategic account management, commercial operations, or customer strategy
- Demonstrated experience building or enabling strategic account or key account management programs
- Expertise in operational excellence, process design, and cross-functional collaboration
- Strong understanding of healthcare ecosystem, including organized customers, IDNs, payers, and providers
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder influence skills
- Strong business acumen, analytical mindset, and project management capabilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred:
- Advanced degree (MBA or equivalent)
- Experience in rare disease, specialty therapeutics, or high-touch care models
- Prior experience with strategic account tools, CRM systems, and EHR workflows
- Consulting background or experience enabling commercial/medical transformation
Experience managing or working with large, complex, strategic healthcare accounts
