Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Tax Director to lead all aspects of tax compliance, planning, and reporting for our dynamic biotech organization. This role is critical in ensuring global tax compliance, optimizing the company's effective tax rate, and supporting strategic business initiatives, including M&A and international expansion. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in corporate taxation and a proven ability to handle complex tax-related matters.
This position is hybrid (onsite minimum of 2 days) and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all federal, state, local, and international tax compliance, reporting, and audit activities.
- Oversee quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740.
- Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes.
- Manage transfer pricing policies and documentation for cross-border transactions.
- Partner with finance, legal, and business teams to provide tax advice on new initiatives, including licensing deals, supply chain planning, IP planning, and M&A activity.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess potential impact on business.
- Manage relationships with external advisors and tax authorities.
- Mentor and develop a growing tax team and lead outsourced providers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or MST preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, with a mix of Big 4 and in-house corporate experience, ideally in the life sciences or biotech sector.
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax law, ASC 740, and international tax concepts.
- Experience with SOX controls and public company reporting.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a hands-on approach.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive attitude with the ability to anticipate the needs of the team.
