Postdoctoral Associate
Cambridge, MA, US, 02142
Overview
The Research Department at Alnylam is seeking a self-motivated, innovative postdoctoral fellow to advancing fundamental understanding of mechanisms in the context of applications beyond gene silencing. This role also requires supporting developing cutting-edge technologies in the oligonucleotide field, aimed at creating innovative therapeutics for unmet medical needs. The successful candidate will have a strong experimental background in cell/molecular biology and biochemistry, with a focus on small RNA biology or gene editing related technologies, and brings a rigorous, analytical approach to problem solving and experimental design. It is expected that the research conducted by the postdoctoral fellow will result in high impact publications after filing appropriate patents and contributing to the Alnylam pipeline.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional collaboration and communication skills, effectively bridging team members across various disciplines and working closely with internal/external partners. A strong foundation in molecular biology/biochemistry, and gene editing technologies such as RNA editing/CRISPR/DNA base editing is essential.
This position is onsite and will be primarily located in Cambridge, MA.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct research focused on developing and exploring next-generation gene editing strategies.
• Integrate RNA editing and gene editing technologies into RNAi research to advance the fundamental understanding of RNAi mechanisms.
• Implement experimental plans using a range of cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry assays.
• Prepare clear and well-structured experimental reports and data presentations.
• Generate, organize, evaluate, and maintain critical data, performing statistical analysis and troubleshooting as needed.
• Collaborate with a team that transparently shares results with key stakeholders across the organization.
Qualifications
• Recent PhD in Cell/Molecular Biology with expertise in RNA biology or gene editing
• Hands-on experience in gene editing technologies, including RNA editing, Crispr, DNA base editing, is preferred.
• Expertise in bioinformatic analysis of high throughput sequencing data will be a plus
• Flexibility to apply expertise to new research areas, strong team collaboration skills, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proven initiative in experimental design, troubleshooting, and performing rigorous data analysis
Alnylam’s Postdoctoral Program
• Postdoctoral fellowships are 2 years in length with the possibility to extend for a third year
• Postdocs are encouraged to attend company meetings and will have broad exposure to RNAi drug discovery and development efforts within the company
• Alnylam provides a scientifically rigorous environment, and postdocs will have opportunities to present their work regularly within the company while also being supported to attend and speak at external conferences
• Publication of work in high impact journals is expected after filling appropriate patents and internal reviews
