Location:

Cambridge, MA, US, 02142

This position is onsite and will be primarily located at 675 W Kendall St Cambridge MA.

Overview:

With six commercially approved RNAi therapeutics, Alnylam is at the forefront of gene silencing. Our success is built upon a rational, sequence-based approach to drug design driven by predictive models and high-throughput data generation. As a bioinformatician analyzing and communicating the results from large NGS datasets to Alnylam Scientists, you will have an opportunity to be at the cutting edge of RNA biology and learn from a talented interdisciplinary team of data scientists, bioinformaticians, and molecular biologists.  Due to the sequence-based design of our drugs and the central role of transcriptomics, you will have a front-row experience to our rational, rapid, and efficient drug development pipeline. You will have the opportunity to evaluate and develop pipelines for new sequencing-based technologies as a key part of a bioinformatics team that is helping to bring a whole new therapeutic modality to patients across a wide variety of tissues and disease contexts.

Responsibilities:

  • Run and develop proprietary Next Generation Sequencing analysis pipelines for short- and long-read technologies.
  • Communicate results of computational analyses to interdisciplinary teams of scientists.
  • Investigate state-of-the art statistical methods and ‘omics tools for novel sequencing technologies (e.g. RNA modification measures, proteogenomics).
  • Assist in the interpretation of results from complex scientific experiments.
  • Professionally maintain code in a version-controlled repository.
  • Contribute to our data science culture.

Requirements:

  • M.S. in a quantitative discipline, or B.S. (2+ years) with equivalent professional experience.
  • Coding capability in R and Python.
  • Prior experience with the analysis of omics-based biological datasets is essential; familiarity with NGS and differential expression analysis tools preferred.
  • Experience with statistical methods and comfort reading and understanding scientific publications is preferred.
  • A drive to learn and understand new sequencing-based technologies, and to develop and troubleshoot downstream analysis pipelines.
  • Comfort working with Unix systems and cloud-based computing environments and tools (e.g. AWS, docker).
  • Knowledge of, or an interest in learning, the fundamentals of RNAi biology.
  • Experience communicating and presenting scientific results, as well as collaborating closely with colleagues with varied skill sets.
