Overview:

Alnylam is seeking a strategic and pragmatic IT leader to serve as Sr. Director, Manufacturing, CMC & Supply Chain Technology. This role will own the end-to-end digital strategy, operations, and application lifecycle across Manufacturing, Chemistry, Manufacturing & Controls (CMC), and Supply Chain in the Technical Operations and Quality (TOQ) organization - driving innovation, compliance, and operational excellence to enable Alnylam to scale with discipline, agility, and impact.

 

Reporting directly to the VP of ReDev & TOQ Technology, this leader will oversee the reliability and operations of critical enterprise systems while advancing a multi-year digital transformation. As a recognized expert in manufacturing, CMC, and Supply Chain technologies, the Sr. Director will be accountable for both day-to-day operational excellence and long-term strategy. They will manage a growing IT team, partner with senior business leaders, and ensure digital capabilities scale with Alnylam’s global growth.

 

This hybrid role is based in Cambridge, MA (3 days/week onsite) with regular engagement at both our Cambridge headquarters and Norton, MA manufacturing site.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shape and execute the digital vision: Define, deliver, and continuously evolve a pragmatic multi-year digital transformation roadmap for Manufacturing, CMC, and Supply Chain, aligned with TOQ and Alnylam’s enterprise strategy.
  • Ensure operational excellence: Own the operations, performance, and compliance of core enterprise platforms (e.g., MES, Electronic Batch Records, Process Analytical Technology, Empower, ERP), ensuring reliable, compliant, and efficient system support across sites.
  • Own the application lifecycle: Drive accountability for the full lifecycle of digital applications - from strategy and design through deployment, sustainment, upgrades, continuous improvement, and retirement.
  • Strengthen compliance foundation: Ensure all systems meet GxP, data integrity, and global regulatory standards, maintaining audit readiness and safeguarding uninterrupted supply of medicines.
  • Serve as strategic partner and expert: Act as the primary technology thought partner and domain expert for Manufacturing, CMC, and Supply Chain leaders, aligning digital capabilities with business and scientific priorities.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team: Inspire, develop, and scale a skilled IT organization that supports both transformation and operations, fostering innovation, accountability, and pragmatic problem-solving.
  • Integrate enterprise capabilities: Collaborate across IT domains (Research, Development, Commercial, Data & AI, Infrastructure, Security) and with external partners to deliver cohesive, enterprise-grade digital solutions.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (e.g., Chemical, Industrial, Biochemical, Bioprocess, Biotechnology, or Pharmaceutical), or a related field; equivalent industry experience considered.
  • 15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience with significant exposure to pharmaceutical or biotech manufacturing, CMC, and supply chain.
  • Proven track record managing operations and application lifecycles in regulated (GxP) environments.
  • Deep expertise in core platforms supporting Manufacturing/CMC/Supply Chain (e.g., MES, EBR, PAT, Empower, and ERP) and integration with adjacent systems (e.g., LIMS, QMS).
  • Strong strategic mindset with a pragmatic approach - balancing long-term vision with reliable delivery of measurable business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success building and leading cross-functional, global teams.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills across executives, scientists, and operations leaders.

 

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering (e.g., Chemical, Industrial, Biochemical, Bioprocess, Biotechnology, or Pharmaceutical), or related discipline.
  • Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical organizations undergoing scale-up or global expansion.
  • Familiarity with emerging digital technologies (AI/ML, IoT, cloud-based manufacturing platforms).

 

U.S. Pay Range

$226,800.00 - $306,800.00

 

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
