Overview

The Senior Manager, Global Compliance Operations, will report to the Director of Global Compliance Monitoring and Anti-Bribery/Anti-Corruption (ABAC) Programs, and is responsible for the oversight, implementation and continuous improvement of compliance systems, tools, processes, and programs designed to identify and mitigate healthcare compliance risk, drive operational efficiency, and enhance the effectiveness of the Global Compliance program and the broader enterprise. 

The Senior Manager will be responsible for helping advance Alnylam’s Global Compliance Program and enterprise efficiencies by partnering cross-functionally with stakeholders in Internal Audit, Finance, IT, and Legal to enhance compliance tools, controls and systems within an end-to-end procure-to-pay process, to optimize end-user experience.  The Senior Manager will coordinate across the Ethics & Compliance organization, collaborating with key business stakeholders across the Company, and present to country-level, franchise and functional leadership.  The Senior Manager must possess an innovative mindset and take a practical, solutions-oriented approach to: (1) leveraging technology to evolve, harmonize, streamline, and strengthen the Global Compliance program and the broader enterprise procure-to-pay process; (2) supporting Compliance business partners in carrying out their advisory responsibilities; and (3) enabling end-users in the broader business to conduct their daily work in a compliant, but efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Manager serves as a healthcare compliance risk SME in the management of tools with embedded compliance controls, specifically:

  • Designing and supporting continuous improvements to the compliance review and approval systems in such areas as external funding, healthcare professional and patient engagements and interactions, and conflicts of interest, while strengthening the ABAC risk mitigation and user experience;
  • Responding timely to inquiries from business stakeholders on questions regarding compliance review and approval systems;
  • Partnering with Finance to develop, implement and continuously improve a Third-Party Risk Management System using a risk-based approach;
  • Serving as the Subject Matter Expert in the Third-Party Risk Management Process for ABAC, Modern Slavery, Conflicts of Interest and Sanctions;
  • Partnering with Finance to support and maintain accurate books and records and the overall company-wide control structure;
  • Developing and executing trainings on the Compliance review and approval system, Third-Party Risk Management and other healthcare compliance related trainings;
  • Supporting and executing on a global monitoring and data analytics program that leverages technology to collect robust and standardized data from multiple sources to produce meaningful, dynamic, and actionable reports and dashboards with insights for both Compliance professionals and business leaders on potential outliers and trends;
  • Reviewing transactions from Global Monitoring tool to address any risks identified; and
  • Drafting concise and accurate summaries of output from the monitoring and data analytics programs, and creating presentations of key issues, findings, trends, outcomes, and necessary remediation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ experience with increasing responsibility in compliance, audit, controllership, consulting or legal roles; focus on operations in the pharmaceutical or life science industry, is strongly preferred;
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Direct experience in designing, implementing, overseeing, and improving compliance systems and tools; data analytics and monitoring; and third party risk management processes;
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence cross-functionally with US and ex-US personnel;
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to global pharmaceutical companies, including, the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, US fraud and abuse and false claims laws, and industry codes on interactions with healthcare professionals;
  • Possess an innovative mindset and must take a practical, solutions-oriented approach;
  • Strong commitment to ethics and integrity in all aspects of their work;
  • Must be able to work and lead collaboratively in a team environment with a wide variety of company personnel on a broad range of matters, including Compliance, Legal, Finance, and business colleagues;  
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, to work independently and manage discrete areas of responsibility with limited supervision, and to flourish in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to thrive in a proactive ethical culture in which compliance and business objectives are mutually reinforcing; strong motivation and ability to champion a comprehensive compliance program and compliance culture that are integrated with and embedded in Alnylam’s business;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, refined communication skills (verbal and written) with fluency in written and spoken English required;
  • Travel will be required on occasion to Alnylam offices in the U.S. and overseas
