We have an exciting opportunity for a Key Account Manager to join our dynamic commercial team in Italy with a focus on the Toscana and Umbria territory. In this field-based role, you will play a critical part in supporting healthcare professionals (HCPs) to identify and manage patients with hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (hATTR) — a rare, often misdiagnosed condition affecting the nervous and cardiovascular systems.

As a Key Account Manager (KAM) at Alnylam, you’ll be a trusted expert in the field, leading the implementation of commercial strategy across your territory with a strong focus on hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (hATTR). Reporting to the Area Sales Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing territory-specific account plans that align with our broader product and organizational goals.
You’ll engage closely with healthcare professionals and key stakeholders to identify patients, improve diagnosis, and ensure optimal treatment pathways. Working cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Market Access, and other internal teams, you’ll drive initiatives that enhance patient care — all while ensuring the highest standards of ethical, legal, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Present a positive image of the company and develop/reinforce awareness about RNAi platform to relevant customer groups
- Develop and lead Regional/Hospital Market Access
- Develop, own, and drive territory and account planning, including customer targeting, in line with country strategy in partnership with the Commercial and Medical Affairs teams
- Perform detailed analysis of the assigned territory to identify, assess, and support the development of relevant centers for diagnosis and treatment
- Drive patient identification, diagnosis, and referral rates by executing against a territory strategy and account specific plans
- Manage and execute local meetings to drive diagnosis and treatment rates, in collaboration with the Medical Affairs Team for physicians and other healthcare professionals
- Steering regular local alignment meetings with other field-based functions to ensure proper implementation and outcomes against the committed territory and account plan
About you…
You are a strategic and relationship-driven professional with a proven ability to engage healthcare providers across both reference centers and the wider community. Your strong business acumen enables you to navigate complex healthcare environments and add tangible value to existing care structures. Drawing on your past experience, you excel at building awareness and driving timely access to innovative treatments.
You are fluent in Italian and English, both written and spoken, and thrive in a field-based role that requires regular travel — with up to 80% of your time spent in your territory. Your ability to foster trust and deliver impact makes you a vital partner in improving outcomes for patients with rare diseases.
- University degree (or equivalent) in a business-related field such as health or comparable educational background
- Significant experience in Sales and Key Account Management within bio/pharmaceutical sales
- Experience in driving, leading and delivering upon territory-level cross functional business planning and influencing without authority
- Collaboration: Builds strong relationship with internal teams, contributes insights, and independently and proactively engages cross functional partners to manage challenges
- Customer Focus: Consistently tailors brand messaging and engagement plans by learning customer needs and preferences while deepening product knowledge and market knowledge
- Execution: Takes ownership of the territory, aligns goals with regional objectives, and develops detailed, customer-focused business plans that are continuously reviewed for impact
- Diagnostic focus: Ability to engage HCPs on the front line of diagnosis and the entire patient journey
- Entrepreneurial Spirit: A self-starter, proactive professional, who thrives in a dynamic environment, eager to make a direct impact on patient outcomes and company success
- Effective communication, listening and influencing skills to engage with professionals at all organisational levels
- Excellent organisational and project management skills
