Overview

This role works very closely with the SVP, Head of Int’l BU, and reports to the VP, Head of Commercial. The Commercial Strategy and Operations Lead has a broad responsibility for strategic planning and operational coordination of International BU leadership. S/he will serve as the primary “owner” of governance processes (dashboard, agendas, attendance, meetings) and strategic initiatives to accomplish our 5 years vision and beyond. S/he will cultivate operational excellence within the International BU. This individual serves as a key member of the BU leadership team and will actively contribute to the BU strategic vision, decision-making and execution as well as embody the values envisaged of company senior leaders.

In practice, this includes:

  1. The definition and progress tracking of the yearly International BU Leadership Team Strategic Priorities and Milestones
  2. The organization and coordination of BU Leadership Team meetings to ensure proper governance of the Business Unit and coverage of all relevant strategic and operational topics in this forum.
  3. The preparation and coordination of the annual country and functional Deep Dive Reviews
  4. The preparation and coordination of performance reviews
    1. Monthly Operating Review
    2. Monthly & Quarterly Business Reviews to Alnylam Senior Management
    3. Ad-hoc business reviews
    4. The International TTR Commercial Strategy and Operations Lead will collaborate with the global analytics functions to ensure the design and maintenance of international’s performance dashboards along with reporting on core KPIs. S/he should continue improving dashboards and key processes to foster a culture of accountability and "operational excellence" across functions.
  5. Strategic projects to increase organizational and operational effectiveness

This role is suited to candidates who have deep relevant experience with a pharmaceutical company or consultancy, ideally with an experience on rare diseases. Strong candidates will have the ability to view the bigger picture while also being able to analyze detail, and showcase exceptional communication and presentation skills. It is a highly visible role which will give the candidate the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of Alnylam’s TTR business in International and to shape its future development.

The position will preferably be located in Zug, Switzerland.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee International BU leadership meetings (agendas, materials, action items, pre-read)
  • Develop key strategic presentation for the SVP Head of International, including performance reviews, board decks
  • Lead ad hoc strategic projects for the BU
  • In partnership with communication, support SVP Head of International’s communication plan for related forums (Town Hall, POAs, others)
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular performance reviews and update within the BU (MOR, MBR, and QBR)
  • Coordinate annual planning and ongoing goal and resource tracking within the BU
  • Drive formation and tracking of International BU goals
  • In collaboration with finance and commercial expertise areas, co-ordinate planning activities
  • Liaise cross-functionally (Legal, Compliance Finance, Procurement, HR, Regulatory, Global and other functions as necessary) to support efficient and timely execution of International commercial objectives
  • Independently identify and resolve issues limiting execution with focus on simplification
  • Responsible for identifying, recommending, and executing process improvement initiatives. Modify processes to meet the evolving needs of the business
  • Collaborate with meeting owners of other key governance bodies to ensure potential duplication of effort/discussion is avoided and ensure the right discussions occur at the appropriate forums
  • Prepare read out communications materials, designed to keep interested parties appraised and informed of the meeting while containing meeting size
  • Maintain contemporary knowledge of Alnylam’s business activities, alliances, RNAi science, relevant diseases and therapeutic areas
  • Participate in commercial team meetings to understand business needs and contribute to performance and planning discussions
  • Ensure that deliverables required by the global headquarters and other regional leaders are provided punctually and to a high-level of quality

 

Qualifications

  • MSc degree in scientific discipline (ideally) and/or business
  • 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years of experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong story-telling skills and ability to build clear and impactful strategic slides.
  • Strong budget, analytical, problem-solving, organization and communication skills.
  • A highly driven, engaged and accomplished operational leader who demonstrates passion and a sense of urgency
  • Excellent problem solving and execution skills, capable to handle many conflicting priorities with a high degree of autonomy
  • Ability to build strong working relationships cross-functionally and across levels, excellent stakeholder engagement skills
  • Comfortable with interacting with senior internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient in ppt and xls
  • Sound judgment and discretion in sensitive matters
